Sonargaon Moves Into Independence Cup Cricket Final

Sonargaon Cricketers continued their winning streak and reached into the final of the Independence Cup Cricket Tournament. After drubbing Mohammedan Sporting by 58 runs in the tournament opener, they comfortably defeated Victoria Sporting Club by 22 runs at Dhanmondi Cricket Ground.

After winning toss, Sonargaon Captain Al Shahriar decided to bat first and young guns Marhsall Ayub and Arafat sunny hammered half centuries to lift Sonargaon to a challenging total of 248-9 in 50 overs.

Marshall Ayub made a prolific 78 ball 67 and Arafat sunny took 63 balls to reach his fifty. Captain Al Shahriar made a polished 48 to maintain Sonargaon’s dominance. Sabbir Khan of Victoria took 3 wickets for 54 runs.

In reply, Victoria Sporting had no answer to the bowling of former test player Fahim Muntasir who took four wickets for 24 runs and restricted Victoria to 226 in 46.5 overs.

Nazmul Hossain topscored with 50, while Gazi Salahuddin and Shahnewaz Kabir contributed 42 and 43 runs respectively but could not prevent the loss as Victoria fell 22 runs short from victory target.

The winner between Mohammedan and Victoria will meet Sonargaon in the March 26 final.
