Grameenphone To Sponsor India-Bangladesh Series

Bangladesh’s leading cellular phone company Grameenphone has earned the sponsorship right for the upcoming India – Bangladesh series. The highly anticipated series starts from 10 May and contains 3 ODI’s and 2 tests. Gramenphone, the main sponsor of Bangladesh national team, has recently extended its sponsorship to Bangladesh National Cricket Academy and with this sponsorship became the leading sponsor of Bangladesh Cricket.

Grameenphone won the sponsorship battle against India-based Nimbus Sports Marketing after a two phase bidding. The sponsorship value of USD 445,000 (3.02 crore BDT) is the highest in Bangladesh cricket history for any international series.

Nimbus managed to earn the right to name the pitch mates at the expense of USD 52,000.

In India, the series is now main talk of the country after Bangladesh ousted India from the world cup that resulted in a ring of changes in Indian cricket. Bangladesh will have little time to respire after the world cup super eights stage to face the Indian challenge.

This is a second visit by India to play a full series, last time they visited Bangladesh in November - December 2004. Bangladesh is yet to tour India as BCCI is reluctant to host Bangladesh on commercial ground.
